News Channels - Too Many or Not Enough

Needing to know everything that is going on locally, nationally and internationally is an obsession these days! There are local newscasts on in the morning - generally from 5 to 9 in the morning as well as at Noon. You also have the Evening local news on from 5 to 7 p.m. at night in most places during the week and again at 11 p.m. to wrap things up for the day. Along with this you also have the overnight news around the world on many stations. As if that were not enough for people, there are now 24-hour news channels that provide all the news you could want. The question here is this: are these TV Shows or something else altogether?

The problem is that many people do not consider news broadcasts to be a TV Show. The title question also comes into play here as well. Are there far too many news channels or not nearly enough? Well, I guess that answer would largely depend upon you, the reader, wouldn't it? Are you a person that absolutely must have every single bit of news that you can get your hands on? Or are you someone who is so sick to death of nothing but negativity in the news that you rarely ever watch it any more?

For the most part news channels and TV Shows about news channels and radio stations are popular. The TV Shows that fall into this category are "WKPR in Cincinnati" and "Midnight Caller" to name a couple. There are others as well. Here again, it goes back top the title question in another form: how much of the "news" is too much? Some say that the "news" is not really that at all. It is always good to know what is going on in the world today, it just depends of how much of the same thing you are willing to deal with.

Name Your Favorite TV Shows

Let's not have any type of fighting over this one people! This is not a subject that really requires a lot of fighting. When you start thinking about your favorite TV Shows you can go all over the spectrum and back. There are so many different television shows that were and are popular all over the world. With that being said, there really is nothing to fight about. Alright, let's look at some of the categories - or genres - that TV Shows can fall into. Do you have a specific genre that you like more than the others out there?

Are you one that really likes the older TV Shows from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s? Do you like a specific type of show from these decades? Do you like watching "Airwolf" or "The Incredible Hulk" for example for the special effects or for the action? Let's face it, who would not want "The Lady" as String (as in Stringfellow Hawke) and Dominic Santini fondly call Airwolf on their side? Those that like action dramas will like stuff like this.

If courtroom or crime drama TV Shows are more to your liking, you have so many to choose from that it will leave your head spinning. In all fairness, there are many people who can simply sit there and reel off their favorite TV show or shows with relative ease. On the other side of that coin there are others that cannot do this very easily at all. For some, there are simply too many shows that they like a lot; while others simply do not pay it that much attention. Whichever direction you happen to be leaning in, it is just fine by us. The point of this is not to create an argument or fighting of any type, it is just a meant to start a good discussion.

Making TV Shows That Make a Difference

What would you be looking to do if you were looking into making TV Shows that really make a difference for you and/or for someone else? What type/types of programming would you come up with? Who would be your target audience? All of these are pretty good questions to think about. When you are looking for TV Shows that seriously make a difference in your life you have a lot of choices. The biggest thing to think about is the total impact of the show that you are making.

Which TV Shows made/make the most impact on you? There are plenty of TV Shows out there that really have no value whatsoever, so people feel anyway, to the general population. There are also programs on over-the-air broadcast and cable/satellite TV that really have made a difference to someone. What about the shows on channels such as National Geographic, The Science Channel and Discovery that inspire a child or young adult to become an archeologist? What about medical shows such as the recent "The Dr. Oz Show" that are making a positive impact on people?

The Host of the show, Dr. Mehmet Oz, is a Cardiac Surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital. That show and his down-to-earth yet No-Nonsense way of hosting has made a great deal of difference to viewers. Dr. Oz does one of the few Medical "Talk" TV Shows that really touches a nerve. A recent episode showed Dr. Oz's own Colonoscopy exam and the surprising results that Dr. Oz got from his colleague Dr. Jon LaPook. Dr. LaPook told Dr. Oz that they had found Pre-Cancerous polyp in the biopsy that was done as part of the exam. This took Dr. Oz by surprise as a physician. He has been warning people for decades and did not see this coming for himself.

Like the Older TV Shows - Look to TV Land or RTV

There are so many of us out here that absolutely live for older TV Shows that are no longer shown on the usual channels. Are you one of the people who love shows like "Airwolf", "Knight Rider", "Petticoat Junction" and "Green Acres" or perhaps "The A-Team"? Well, there are a few places on your television dial that you can go. One is TV Land on cable or satellite. The other is called RTV, which is the Retro Television Network, which is an over-the-air digital channel.

For many of us it is the older TV Shows that are the tops. Are you looking for the cartoons that are not shown any longer on regular TV or even the cable channel? You can find so many of the older cartoons on RTV pretty easily on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. Do you remember "Fat Albert" or the "Archies" or "Brave Starr"? Who could ever forget "He-Man" otherwise known as "Master of the Universe" or "She-Ra: Princess of Power"? These two are on RTV Saturday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. in this writer's local area.

Whether you are a kid currently or just a kid-at-heart, these channels have the TV Shows that you remember and that are not shown regularly anymore. The shows that are on both channels range from the 1950s right up to the 1990s and even a few that have been taken off the air since 2000. There are so many older TV Shows that you could spend all day and night watching them and be in heaven. Let's face it folks, some of the older shows are still in, and well worth watching. These two channels many not carry all of your favorite older TV Shows, yet they do have a pretty good selection that changes periodically.
