Did You Hear About the Morgans? Hugh Grant in Wyoming?

Did You Hear About The Morgans is a fluffy romantic comedy. How can you not love Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker? Actually it's a good story with wit, humor, romance and redemption, what else can you ask for in a movie? Heart warming, it will leave you with a smile.

Did You Hear About The Morgans was written and directed by Marc Lawrence who wrote two other Hugh Grant movies, Music and Lyrics and Two Weeks Notice. This is another fish out of water tale with Hugh Grant's talent at humor on display, along with Sarah Jessica Parker along for the ride.

The story line starts with Paul Morgan, Hugh Grant, a successful lawyer, and Meryl Morgan, Sarah Jessica Parker, a fashionable real estate agent being on the outs. Paul had confessed to an affair and is now living in a hotel. Being miserable about his indiscretion Paul invites Meryl out to dinner for a talk and the ice between them melts somewhat and they go for a walk. Then they hear a scream and look up to see a man being murdered and unfortunately the killer gets a good look at them. Enter the Marshall Service who wants to relocate them which they both oppose. Well Meryl changes her mind after a nearly successful attempt on her life.

The couple have long lived in Manhattan and now are transported to Wyoming and the ensuing culture shock is fun to watch. The town has one stoplight and they feel cut off from the world. U.S. Marshall Clay, Sam Elliot, (Road House) and his wife Emma, Mary Steenburgen, (The Proposal) are their protectors. The fun starts when Clay, a rugged taciturn cowboy and Emma a gun enthusiast take Meryl and Paul out shooting. The pair are hilarious in their attempts to hit cans set on a tree stump. Meryl turns out to be the better shot. The pair also has an amusing scene with a bear with Meryl reading the do's and dont's from a Bear Safety Card to Paul as he is trapped by the bear.

Meryl has slept on the couch since the first night unable to forgive Paul. Over the next few weeks their relationship begin to mend with time spent together. They enjoy horseback riding and running along scenic meadows and mountains. The couple also begins to talk about the past and share insider New York jokes which brings them closer together. Their is also a funny scene with the couple playing bingo which is a rare night out. The pair starts feel more at home when Meryl helps sell a house and Paul draws up a will for a local business owner. You can see Paul and Meryl's new found respect for the rugged no nonsense locals.

Well, Meryl moves into the bedroom with Paul and relationship enters a new phase. Unfortunately hyperactive Meryl make a phone call to check on her business and the killer has tapped her line. The killer sets out for Wyoming. He almost knocks off Meryl when a bear appears to disrupt his plan and Meryl holds him off with a Winchester rifle. The next scene is funny with Paul and Meryl escaping on horseback and the killer following on their heels.

The climax is unexpected with Paul standing up to the killer and about to blown away, when the locals save his hide. Their return to New York is set and the heart warming finale brings unexpected events.

Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker bring the comedic talents forward and do a credible job. Mary Steenburgen and Sam Elliott are great in their quirky roles as the U.S. Marshalls.

Did You Hear About The Morgans? is a light fluffy romantic comedy with endearing moments. The film is perfect for Hugh Grant talents, as he calls himself "a laugh tart". If you want to escape from the world for a couple of hours and smile, this is your movie.
